Résumé :
En suivant cinq artistes, Manet, Degas, Monet, Renoir et Cézanne,
dont la démarche a changé la peinture, ce film nous présente
une enquête sur le milieu artistique parisien des années 1860.
A travers des documents de l’époque, la caméra accompagne
ces peintres dans les ateliers où ils se forment, les cafés où
ils discutent, les salons où ils exposent (ou n’exposent pas).
Va-et-vient ininterrompus entre la scène officielle et la marginalité.
Hors de Paris, on découvre les lieux qui les ont inspirés, des
bords de Seine aux plages normandes où ils se promènent et travaillent.
abstract:
As it goes along with five artists : Manet, Degas, Monet, Renoir, Cézanne,
who changed the art of painting, this film presents an investigation on the
artistic Parisian circles of the 1860’s.
Through documents of that period, the camera follows these painters in the studios
where they are taught, in the cafés where they discuss, in the exhibitions
where they show their works (or not). Continual backwards and forwards between
the official scene and the marginality.
Out of Paris, we discover the places that inspired them, from the banks of the
Seine to the beaches of Normandy where they walk and work
